Mitt Romney Comes Out for School Choice
Yesterday Mitt Romney made clear that he is in favor of school choice. He also didn’t cow-tow to the unions. Good for him. The editors of The Wall Street Journal are happy about it, too. Speaking in Washington, D.C., the GOP candidate endorsed the district’s voucher program that the Obama Administration has tried to kill despite its clear success: “In the Opportunity Scholarships, the Democrats finally found the one federal program they are willing to cut. Why? Because success anywhere in our public schools is a rebuke to failure everywhere else. That’s why the unions oppose even the most common-sense improvements.” Right on all counts. With their voucher lifeline, D.C. students began outperforming public-schoo...

Talk About Inheriting a Mess!
The next president is going to have one big mess on his hands, thanks to President Obama and the Democrats. We always hear them complaining about the mess they inherited (which they helped create when they controlled both houses of Congress) but they don’t talk about what they’re leaving for the next to deal with. Hopefully Mitt Romney wins and repeals FrankenDodd. Otherwise, taxpayers are going to be on the hook not only for “too big to fail” banks, but also bad bets made on Wall Street. You can’t make this stuff up. Talk about inhering a mess. The Wall Street Journal has the details: J.P. Morgan’s recent trading loss and the resulting Washington blather about tighter regulation have grabbed headlines. L...

Video Shows People Robbing Man Passed Out on Sidewalk
Okay, it’s pretty dumb to drink so much that you pass out on the sidewalk. But still, it’s disturbing to see video of so many people going through this guy’s pockets and stealing from him. What a depraved culture. Watch the surveillance video – it’s one after another. One woman took a chain from his neck. Another guy stole his belt and someone else took his shoes off, apparently looking for money. They emptied his pockets, stole his watch and his wallet. If that wasn’t all bad enough, according to CBS Local the poor guy woke up and wandered into a yard and was arrested for trespassing. You hear about people “rolling drunks,” but I always think of common criminals when I think of that, not just...

Scott Walker’s Reforms in Wisconsin are Working
The Wisconsin recall election pushed by the Democrats and unions is only two weeks away. It isn’t looking good for their candidates, as Governor Scott Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch had a nice lead in the latest poll. That was before a left-leaning newspaper endorsed Scott Walker. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the reforms they enacted are working. While a lightning rod for controversy and recall, Wisconsin’s Act 10 has paid significant dividends to taxpayers, according to a new analysis by the Beacon Hill Institute for Public Policy Research, at Suffolk University in Boston. Act 10, which curbed collective bargaining for most unionized public employees, in the whole has saved taxpayers more...

Baseball and News I Didn’t Get To
Both of my boys play baseball. They’re three years apart in age, so they’re always on different teams. Which means we go to a lot of baseball games. This week there are makeup games in addition to the regular games because of some rainy weather at the beginning of the season. Needless to say, between work, keeping up the house and all of these baseball games I’m not getting to quite a few news items. Here are a few I probably won’t get a chance to write about today. Stacy McCain has not returned to his home thanks to domestic terrorist Brett Kimberlin, aka The Speedway Bomber, aka Citizen K, aka The Man With No F’ing Soul. - If you haven’t heard about how the Obama administration gave Hollywood filmmakers...
