Ferrari proudly announces the release of its fastest ever road-going car – the new 599 GTO, an extreme V12 berlinetta that comes in an exclusive limited edition for only 599 clients. The new 599 GTO set a record lap time at Fiorani in 1’24”, benefiting entirely from the technological transfer from racing.
But the Fiorani lap time is not the only thing spectacular about this car, as its technical specifications are also remarkable – the weight-to-power ratio is only 2.23 kg/hp ( 670 hp in a 1495kg car), ensuring a top speed of over 335 km/h, while the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.35”.
For the first time on a production car, the chassis is truly communicative and the understeer is almost absent because of the complicated electronic controls and the close correlation between the chassis set-up, which is close to the handling limit. The consequence is a superlative driving involvement and also faster lap times.
The engine derives from the 599XX unit, but with adequate adjustments for road-going homologation. The V12 engine can generate 670 CV at 8250 rpm with maximum torque of 620 Nm at 6500 rpm. In the same time, flexibility is kept even at medium and low revs. The engine sound inside the car is attentively managed in order to equilibrate the intake sound with the exhaust, which includes a 6-into-1 manifold derived from the 599XX.
Ferrari 599 GTO benefits of a second generation magnetorheological suspension control system (SCM2) that function along with latest-generation F1-Trac traction control and VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), making the car highly responsive.
Inspired from F1, weight reduction is a basic principle for Ferrari 599 GTO. In order to achieve this, there is a widespread use of composites and components crafted with technologies specific to racing requirements. The car has a dry weight of 1495 kg, while the weight-to-power ratio is only 2.23 kg/hp.
The aerodynamics is also inspired from the F1 experience, the car developing a downforce of 144 kg at 200 km/h. For improved lateral grip and quicker turn in, the tires are 285/30 on a 9.5’’ channel with 315/35 on an 11.5’’ channel at the rear, while the car has 20’’ rims.
The CCM2 braking system is more consistent and lighter. The ABS can be calibrated to a high performance level. The 100 to 0 km/h braking distance is 32.5 meters.
Maximizing performance, the car-driver interface of Ferrari 599 GTO consists of a layout of main commands that provides maximum efficiency and minimum distraction.
