How To Brew Beer

Beer is a beverage that has been around for thousands of years. Throughout history beer has suffered many transformations but the basic brewing process has not changed. Despite the fact that there are various types of beer available on the market there is a certain satisfaction to brewing your own beer. More and more people prefer homemade products over store bought ones because they are healthier and cheaper. The money factor is one of the first reasons that drive people to brew their own beer. However if you persevere in brewing beer you can even make it a lot tastier than the store one. There are a few basic instructions on how to brew beer. However each step of the way can be as complicated as you want it to be.

The first thing you need is a basic brewing kit which costs about 100 $. The ingredients you need for making beer are liquid or dried malt extract, hops, yeast and specialty grains. There are a lot of yeast varieties that you can use for making different types of beer. It is recommended that you keep a brewing notebook where you can write all the recipes that you will be experimenting as well as the obtained results. Another essential thing you must keep in mind is to always have clean brewing equipment. After you sanitize your equipment make sure to rinse it well and eliminate all traces of toxic substances. You should treat beer making like a science where every little detail can change the outcome.

The first step is to put the specialty grains into hot water. Try to fashion a big tea bag for the grains and submerge it in 10 gallons of water. Keep the water heated at 150ºF for 30 minutes and then remove the grain bad. Proceed to adding the malt extract and raise the water temperature until it reaches the boiling point. When learning how to brew beer the hops are very important. According to the type of beer that you are making the hops are added at different intervals ( adding the hops early will produce a more bitter but less flavored beer while adding them towards the end of the process will produce a more tasteful beer). The liquid that you have produced so far is called wart and it needs to be cooled as soon as possible so after boiling it make sure you submerge it into a tub of iced water.

The next step in learning how to brew beer is fermentation. When pouring the cooled wart into the fermenter feel free to splash as this will improve the fermentation process. Use a strainer to scoop the hops out as they have already done their job. Next you need to add water( enough to make a batch of 20 gallons) and yeast. It is recommended that you stir the yeast with warm water in order to activate it. Proceed to sealing the fermenter and put it in a rather dark corner with a constant room temperature. In 24-48 hours it should start bubbling. Last but not least bottling and storing are also very important. Store the bottles at room temperature for about 2 weeks before refrigerating them. These are the basic steps to brewing beer but feel free to do a lot of research on the subject. On the internet you will find a lot of tips from fellow brewers that will allow you to produce higher quality beer.
