Digital art is a revolutionary new media art that uses digital technology in the creative process. Some say that it is not a real art form because there are infinite copies and no original piece, but creating digital art is really hard work and requires lots of creativity. Art used to be a window into the real world, so when the camera was invented artists redefined their vision and started using their imagination to produce abstract art.

The computer was an even greater revolutionary tool, allowing the artist to use unlimited resources and generate art that was considered impossible before. There are many types of digital art like animation, web site design, 3D modeling, digital photo manipulation, digital painting, illustration and even game. If you are thinking about how to create digital art, here are 5 steps that will guide you:

1. Sketch your idea on paper or digital

Sketching is fast, fun and the first thing you must do. If you do it on paper you will need to scan it afterward and save it as a .PNG or .JPEG so you can upload it into the program. If you don’t have a scanner you can do a digital sketch. This also allows faster erasing, moving and distorting.

2 .How to create digital art composition

Composition, or page layout means “putting together”. Place your visual elements so that your center piece is highlighted and the whole image is pleasing to the eyes. You can zoom out so you can have a better view of the key elements and figure how to bring your piece to life.

3. Color your sketch

You can use other photos as inspiration for colors or just go with your imagination. Use a large brush and color the background. You can darken the corners for a frame look. After you finish painting the canvas you can erase the line sketch. You don’t have to do the details at this stage.

4. Detailing

This is the most important step in the “How to create digital art” tutorial. Before you begin detailing, make sure everything is correct and in place. You can open a new window for your painting to help with the smaller details. If you are using Photoshop go to window, arrange, new window. You can zoom on one frame and use the other so you can see the whole picture.

5. Foreground detailing

Using a small brush draw the outlines and don’t forget to detail your background so you don’t leave many empty spaces. Try to add more than one layer to every part. You can add lighter stripes effects and finish it with an opacity brush.
