Spring pruning means that you should ground your grass before new growth begines, around early spring. This important because with the cold climate from the winter the grass does not start growing until the middle of spring.
Some grasses do not require great pruning but this is a great time to start cleaning your plants before they start to grow. Cut off the tips of the evergreen grasses if they have become ragged or frayed. Remove dead grass stalks so that the plants may begin their growth with a new face.
Summer pruning helps maintain the shape and the height of the grass clump. The middle of the winter is the perfect time to prune the dried grass in mild climates. In areas where there have not been many episodes of frost during the winter the grass will start growing at the end of the winter or at the beginning of spring. The grass should be cut at growned level in order for a new one to appear.
Grass left unpruned over the winter tends to look tired and broken in places because of their height, the wind which blows hard in the winter or because of the heavy snow which sits on them. You should prune them to the ground during the winter season in the start to look unhealthy of not being taken care of.
