Think about a luxurious fast car and add ActiveHybrid technology. This is not a dream anymore, as BMW announced the world`s fastest hybrid so far, the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7, an equilibrate mixture between efficiency and dynamic performance.

The twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine with High Precision Direct Injection and the 3-phase synchronous electric motor make this sedan accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, while the fuel is estimated to 17 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, an improvement in comparison to the similar 750i/Li.

This 455 hp hybrid has an intelligent energy management specially developed for the BMW ActiveHybrid 7. It has a high performance 35 cells lithium-ion battery whose functions are managed by a control unit consisting of two interconnected on-board networks. The innovative 120-volt battery has a superior capacity and a multi-cycle operating power. This 400 watt-hours battery measures 14.6 x 8.7 x 9.1 inches (it occupies only 1 cubic foot of luggage), weights 59.5 lb, and its location offers very good protection in case of a crash.

Because of the two turbocharged V8 gasoline engine and the High Precision Direct Injection, the generated power has an entire engine speed range, so the response of the engine is characterized by spontaneity. The engine capacity is 4.4. liters and the Piezo-injectors provide smoothness and efficiency to the combustion process.

The cooling system is modified according to ActiveHybrid concept and the consequence is an amazing power from idle. The additional torque of the electric motor decreases the time response of the engine. BMW ActiveHybrid 7 can reach 60mph in 4.7 seconds and 100 mph in 5 seconds, becoming one of the fastest sports cars in the world.

The three-phase synchronous electric motor can generate boost of almost 20hp and peak torque of 155 lb-ft, but these actions do not require a significant fuel consumption because one of the main characteristics of this car is to put together power and fuel efficiency.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 contains 8-speed high-tech automatic transmission combined with Auto Start Stop. Thanks to this transmission and the Auto Start Stop function, the V8 engine can stay in power peak and in the same time ensure enhanced overall sufficiency. When at idle, the combustion engine is automatically switched off by the Auto Start Stop for saving fuel. If the brake pedal is released, the engine restarts also automatically. To reduce vibrations, the starting is provided by the electric motor.

The climate control system is linked to the high-voltage battery and is independent of the engine status, so even if the engine is off, the climate is on. The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 has a standard 4-zone automatic climate control with a lot of climate related functions in all circumstances.

Using Black Panel technology and iDrive control system in the Central Display, the driver has access to a comprehensive view of the car status, from the charge level of the battery and current efficiency, to the flow of energy and the interaction between the V8 gasoline engine and the electric motor.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 features a double-wishbone front suspension and an improved Integral-V rear suspension, as well as a Driving Dynamic Control system. As a result, the suspension technology used for this car offers a controlled and comfortable ride.

In terms of safety, the components of the high-voltage system have full insulation and special plug connector. Any failure or collision leads to the instant switch off of the entire high-voltage system.
This hybrid car is provided with access to BMW Ultimate ServiceTM which includes services as the BMW Maintenance Program, Roadside Assistance, New Vehicle Limited Warranty and BMW AssistTM.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is available in standard and long wheelbase forms and is the perfect choice for the ones who want to have a big, fast, powerful, luxurious, but eco-friendly car.
